FMS 2026: What We Saw
FMS 2026 marked the show’s 20th anniversary in Santa Clara, and the announcements pointed in a remarkably consistent direction: AI inference is reshaping memory, storage, and the interconnect that ties them together.
Five themes stood out on the floor, and each one is squarely where Serial Cables helps.
The March to PCIe 6.0/7.0
Test platforms went PCIe 7.0 ready and PCIe 6.0 storage architectures were front and center: Kioxia introduced the industry's first PCIe 6.0 enterprise SSDs built on its 332-layer BiCS FLASH Generation 10 TLC memory, and Microchip and Micron demonstrated a PCIe 6.0 storage architecture for AI.
Where we fit:
PCIe 7.0 x16 CDFP ACC and PCIe 7.0 MCIO DAC cables, our PCIe 6.0 MCIO Host Card on Broadcom Atlas III, and the 160 lane PCIe 6.0 dev board we built with Microchip, so you can validate next gen links today.
CXL Goes Mainstream
CXL 3.x memory pooling and expansion were everywhere: Montage Technology announced industry first trial production of its CXL 3.2 MXC chip, Liqid launched a CXL memory pooling platform for AI, and Kioxia showcased its XL1 series CXL memory expansion module.
Where we fit:
CXL 3.x support across the line: the Hydra JBOF, x16/x8 retimers and adapters, and MCIO retimer enclosures for CXL evaluation and disaggregation.
EDSFF Is the AI Storage Form Factor
Next gen E1.S and E3 SSDs for AI and hyperscale led the storage announcements with Kioxia announced next generation E1.S SSDs for AI and hyperscale, DapuStor unveiled 512TB and liquid cooled SSDs optimized for AI, and Kioxia’s GP1 high IOPS drives targeted AI applications.
Where we fit:
the Hydra 8 bay PCIe 6.0 JBOF supporting EDSFF E1.S/E3.S/E3.L plus legacy U.2, U.3, M.2, and AIC to EDSFF adapters with Phison redrivers for early device validation.

AI Inference Reshapes the Data Path
Memory and storage roadmaps reframed around agentic AI and inference throughput. A clear example was Marvell advanced its AI memory infrastructure portfolio for agentic AI inference, Sandisk showcased NAND innovation for the era of AI inference, and Samsung laid out a next gen 3D memory vision for AI infrastructure.
Where we fit:
purpose built AI infrastructure interconnect: DAC, ACC, and AOC assemblies up to 1.6 Tbps for rack to rack and disaggregated fabrics.
CXL Goes Mainstream
SerialTek's Kodiak PCIe Protocol Test System earned PCI-SIG approval as an authorized provider for PCIe 6.0 link and transaction layer compliance testing, validating PCIe 6.0 designs across the same fabric that Serial Cables host cards, retimers, and enclosures are built for.
Where we fit:
host cards that validate PCIe 6.0 devices before PCIe 6.0 hosts exist, custom design at 8 weeks concept to cable, and exclusive Quarch test integration for the U.S. & Mexico.
